Salsa

Yesterday we had an amazing salsa class. At first, I wasn´t to comfortable with the idea of dancing but our teacher was genious. He kept telling us to be sexy and show off our hips. Jorge made us want that Latin blood to run through our bodies and pull off those steps. Eventually, we all learned the basic step, suzie q, el cinco, and some kind of step that looked like a grape vine. We all got a real kick out of the whole class.

Tonight....Moroccan food and party with our Italian friends!!!

Clean Up!!

I have never gone to the beach as much as I have on this trip. After the first couple of times, we have all noticed how dirty the beach can be. Yesterday, a couple of us went to the beach with bags in hand and started to clean up. By the end of the night, my biodegradable garbage bag was filled with cigarette butts. After cleaning, we were all very happy to be able to give back to Cadiz after everything it has done. We were even happier to eat ice cream afterwards.

Cleaning up is something easy we should all do more often.

Trauma

Yesterday, comming back from the beach I had quite an expirence. Meredith, Chris, and I decided to start singing when suddenly I felt something wet and cold hit me...bird poop. Thought I would let you know. =)

MOST AWSOME NIGHT YET

Sooo.... after tapas with the group on Saturday, a couple of friends decided to go to the Teatro Falla, two streets away from our house. They were having a international folkore dance show but we arrived 45 mins late. We also didn´t have tickets. Luckily the man at the door let us in for free! The gorgeous theater was filled. I was shocked to seee everyone with their fans. Fans are actually used. There were Mexican and Russian dancers. The excitement we felt when the Flamenco dancers came on is unique. The singer´s voice captured Cadiz and their faces exhibited the Spanish woman´s beauty. Now more than ever do I want to learn how to dance Flamenco.

That was one hell of a night.

Fun Times

Yesterday, Meredith, Ellie, Chirstopher, Hailey, Addie, and me were walking along the beach. We had such a great time, what began as a romantic walk turned into a cool photoshoot. I will put the pictures up once I figure out how to do that with my camera :( . After our fun,we went to what I dub the best ice cream ever. The ice cream place is on calle Ancha and we sat and talked all the way till 11. Most restaurants don´t have take out forcing people to sit down and enjoy. I must go to class now.
Hasta Luego!!

A Bit of Everything

When I arrived at the airport, I met Staci, our group coordinator, and half of the group that was going to Cadiz. For the first time I felt overwhelmed about my trip. A month suddenly seemed too lengthy. All the students were in a circle introducing themselves. Once I found the courage to join the group, everything became like the adventure I was waiting for. Everyone is so sweet and welcoming. We are all very different too. Ellie is from Minnesota, Caitlyn from New Jersey, Elora from California and the list goes on and on. We meet the rest of the group in Madrid, there are sixty of us.
Our host parents Angeles, and Pepe are very kind people. Pepe, which is the nickname given to anyone called Jose, teaches me Spanish history and culture. Our host mom, Angeles, is such a caring person. The dog, Estrella, is cute but also super loud. You know the door has opened once you hear the barking. Addie, my roomate, is from Seattle. We spend a lot of time together exploring the streets of Cadiz. Cadiz truly is a safe and endering place. The classes so far have been really nice. I am in love with flamenco. After our first class, I went out and bought a pair. However, I still can´t dance a step. The sounds and movements are so powerful. In Spanish class we learned idioms here is a list of some of them:
ponerse morado- full after eating
tener un enchufe- to have connections
estar como una rosa- fresh and awake
This is all for now I´ll and some more tid bits later!

p.s. Churros are not as sweet as the one in America BUT the chocolate makes them soooo good.
p.p.s. Ice cream is also very good.
p.p.p.p.s. I saw Hangover 2 in Spanish yesterday its called Resacon 2. Jose´s reaction was priceless.

Hasta Luego!!!

AHHHHHH

Just realized there are only 13 days leftǃǃSuper excited for Cadiz, I already know my host family. They are a couple with a doggy. My roommate is Addie and she seems really nice. She lives in Washington but used to live in Manhattan, close to where I live. I still haven't decided what to get them as a gift. Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Thoughts Before I Go....

I love meeting new people, taking on new challenges and travelling to new places. Cadiz is the best place to start. I am part of the community of the world and want to experience it all. Spain has such a rich culture filled with gorgeous beaches, tight families, and bull fights. The idea of staying in a home stay is really exciting. People can visit countries and never really know what the country is about. When I go to Cadiz this summer, I will try to push myself to be open minded and try everything I can If you listen to all your fears you miss out on a lot. My goal is to improve my Spanish grammar while I am there. With my Spanish, I can see the world more from their perspective. Learning languages helps break social barriers. I wonder how different Spain is from my New York home. For now, I just need to start packing.
